In April 2024, Hunniford Farms in Co Armagh, Northern Ireland showcased the pivotal role of SlurryKat equipment in their farming success story. With a wet spring challenging agricultural operations, Hunniford Farms relied on the durability, reliability and versatility of SlurryKat products to ensure efficient slurry handling and spreading, even within tight weather windows.
Hunniford Farms is a third-generation farming and agricultural contracting business, run by fathers and sons, operating on land in Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Scotland. With activity in beef, diary, cereals and apple picking, they also facilitate three anaerobic digestor (AD) plants for renewable energy. This, all based from their farm in County Armagh, Northern Ireland.
SlurryKat's umbilical spreading range is one of the most effective ways for LESS (Low Emission Slurry Spreading). It is great to see one of our customers, Hunniford Farms, using a wide range of SlurryKat products to give optimum results.
Farming approx. 3,800 acres, their use of SlurryKat umbilical equipment facilitates the handling and spreading of "29 million gallons of slurry and digestate annually." Sourced through their cattle and digestate plants, resulting in substantial "cost savings of up to 70% on artificial fertiliser procurement." Tim Black, Farm Manager.
Victor Hunniford explained the preference for SlurryKat products, "due to the excellent build quality and durability of the equipment. We spread 29 million gallons a year so the equipment we use gets worked hard and needs to be reliable and up to the task". The SlurryKat umbilical range includes a vast selection of products from hose reelers, dribble bars and trailing shoes, to pumps, tankers and nurse tanks, as well as hoses, couplings and more. All of our products are built from the highest quality materials and superior processes, verified by our ISO-9001 accreditation.
Hunniford Farms use the SlurryKat umbilical spreading system, as it allows them to spread further, faster and more efficiently. The source of the slurry/digestate can at times, be 40 miles away from the ground they are spreading on.
Tim Black explains, "We use the SlurryKat umbilical methods of spreading as it's high quality gives us flexibility in transporting and applying our slurry at high volumes, keeping us efficient and reducing soil compaction." At SlurryKat, we test our equipment to ensure products are as lightweight and strong as possible, using our on-site Research and Development facility, allowing us to manufacture cost effective, efficient and more environmentally friendly machinery.
Hunniford's have a large fleet of SlurryKat products to suit all their on-farm and contracting operations, including 8 tankers (ranging from 4000G (18m³) up to 6000G (27m³) lorry tankers, 3 dribble bars, a 65m³ mobile nurse tank, 4 front reelers (800m & 1000m), Oroflex hose with SlurryKat couplings and HD35 DODA pumps.
"Our tankers have options of over-hedge booms and auto-discharge arms, which makes them versatile for feeding a SlurryKat mobile nurse tank, or pumping directly to the umbilical system. The Oroflex hose is fitted with SlurryKat couplings and swivel 360 degrees continually, even when dragged under pressure. They don't need any tools and come with a lifetime warranty. SlurryKat's product versatility is a major strength." Continued the Hunniford Farms Manager.
As the SlurryKat product range offers many customisable options, farmers and contractors are able to tailor equipment precisely to their specific requirements and applications.
All SlurryKat Premium Plus™ tankers come in a range of sizes and are fully customisable, extremely lightweight and made with farmers, agri-contractors and businesses in mind. They benefit great fuel efficiency savings, through 6mm high tensile s355 special UK grade steel for exceptional quality. They are built, welded and painted for strength, stability and longevity, offering a 7-year warranty (paint) with our unique painting process. The transport tyres have a low set recessed design and the tanker has internal compartmentation for stability and smooth road transport on all loads. The design is drawn from our years of contracting experience and by our expert team of engineers, at our high-tech manufacturing facility. Our aim is to ensure customer satisfaction and productivity, by providing equipment that is considered the best on the market.
Hunniford Farms order their SlurryKat equipment painted with bespoke 'New Holland Blue' gloss. Our products use exclusive acrylic gloss paint finish, from our advanced spray booths. This gives long lasting protection from highly corrosive slurry for many years of use. Tim Black concludes, SlurryKat equipment is "so impressive, we have another SlurryKat 5500G (25m3) tri-axle tanker on order and will continue to use SlurryKat products throughout our operations."
We greatly value Hunniford Farms and invite everyone to visit their social media channels to witness the scale of their processes, as well as how they incorporate SlurryKat umbilical systems throughout their business.

5000 G (22.5m³) tri-axle tanker | Positive steer, Over-hedge boom, DCi arm, Hydraulic driven vacuum pump, draw bar mounted Doda L27 pump, 8" terragator funnel. |
3 x 4500 G (20m³) tandem-axle tankers | Over-hedge boom, DCi arm, Hydraulic driven vacuum pump, draw bar mounted Doda L27 pump, 8" terragator funnel. |
4000 G (18m³) tandem-axle tanker | |
2 x 6000 G (27m³) lorry tankers | With 16000 litre vacuum pump. |
2 x 12m Duo Dribble Bars | With unique SlurryKat macerators which deliver equal volumes out of each nozzle, right along the length of the Dribble Bar, resulting in even and precise distribution – no matter what length of dribble bar. |
2 x 24m Dribble Bars | Vogelsang dribble bar supplied by SlurryKat. |
SlurryKat 65m3 mobile nurse tank with integrated Doda pump | Easily placed in field location with set up time less than 5 minutes. Oroflex hose coupled to high pressure pump. |
2 x 1000m Front Reelers | Novel high torque, double drive system, allowing 800m of 5" hoses to be reeled up, all coupled together, in one length. This eliminates the need to cross the slurry applied area reducing soil compaction and reducing double traveling in less favourable conditions . |
2 x 800m Front Reelers | |
Oroflex Hose | SlurryKat use Oroflex pipelines as they withstand the rigours of aggressive dragging and rough terrain and are designed for Sludge, Slurry & Irrigation. |
SlurryKat Couplings | SlurryKat Couplings are easily attached - no need for additional tools. Safety couplings ensure they are locked closed during operation eliminating spillage pollution risks. They swivel under pressure to allow untwisting of the hose during spreading eliminating downtime. |
Integrated DODA® AFI HD35 high pressure centrifugal Pump with inlet chopping system and DODA L27 pumps equipped on tankers | 350m3 per hour @ 17 bar pressure c/w headland management system (HMS) which allows headland turns without the slurry flowing from the dribble bar and reducing stress on headlands and associated mess or over application of slurry during turns. |
