Cost Savings, Delivering Efficiency & Overcoming Obstacles: John Kelly & Son Agri Hire Ltd Case Study

John Kelly & Son Agri Hire Ltd is a third-generation family business that has been providing Agri contracting and digger hire services for over 50 years. Located in Currow, Ireland, their company offers everything from pit and baled silage, to ploughing, reseeding, digger hire and slurry spreading.

Slurry application is a key part of their business and managing slurry spreading efficiently, especially with varying weather and ground conditions, presents its own set of problems. That's why they opted for SlurryKat equipment.

Their SlurryKat Equipment

Among their equipment manufactured by SlurryKat are:

These machines have played a pivotal role in helping them maximise efficiency during the slurry season, whilst helping them reduce their costs and increase their profits.

Overcoming Obstacles with SlurryKat

Before they invested in SlurryKat machinery, spreading slurry over long distances was a time-consuming process, "We can now spread up to 1800m away from the source, while being able to carry it all on one tractor," says John Kelly. "Being able to carry all 1800m of hose on one tractor has saved us time, effort and fuel, especially when working across larger fields."

"The umbilical hose and lightweight 12m dribble bar help us overcome ground conditions, as each year there seems to be more and more difficult weather. The umbilical system allows us to spread even when ground conditions aren't ideal, without causing harm to the soil or plants," John continued.

Why They Chose SlurryKat

"With SlurryKat, you know exactly what you're getting," John explained. "They're made by experienced contractors for every farmer and the quality is exceptional, with standout features compared to competitors. We've been using their products for six or seven years now and we haven't looked back since."

John also went on to comment…

  • "SlurryKat equipment is the best on the market. With quick and easy setup, meaning high work rates and productivity, helping keep our labour time and costs low."
  • "The 12m dribble bar has been fantastic. The capacity and output in a day are phenomenal, allowing us to cover more ground efficiently."
  • "The build quality is exceptional. Regular greasing and very little maintenance and you've got a machine that will last you a lifetime, again seeing big savings on maintenance costs."

SlurryKat Product Reviews

Here's what John had to say about each of the SlurryKat products they own:

  • 12m Premium Plus™ Dribble Bar: "The double macerator design keeps the whole system flowing smoothly. It is easy to use and well balanced, even over the long 12m span, helping reduce downtime and frustration.
  • BakPak™ Rear Reeler: "The double roller design has made rolling up the hose much easier. It irons out knots and kinks, which makes packing up faster and less stressful at the end of the day. It also helps clean the hosing, so no need to blow out the system after every use.
  • SlurryKat Coupling: "The swivel hose coupling on the dribble bar is a fantastic feature. It makes headland turning a lot easier, allowing us turn tighter to cover more ground. The hydraulic folding boom ends fold up neatly and great for transport manoeuvring between jobs.
  • Premium Plus™ Reeler: "The reeler is quick and tough. We can carry more hose, saving us fuel and have ease when setting up and moving between fields, with efficient roll up and roll out times. It's very simple to use."

"SlurryKat offer the best equipment on the market," concludes John. "When you experience the quality, productivity and simplicity, you don't want anything else."

A big thank you to John Kelly & Son Agri Hire Ltd for their participation in the case study and for choosing the multi-award-winning SlurryKat slurry handling technology for their operations.
